Savvy Cinema was founded in 2004 by Melbourne based filmmaker Tom Davies. Since its conception the company has produced a series of both short films and corporate videos with a wide client base, from Brian James’ Guide to Getting Free Publicity, to filming the launch of fashion label Snikity at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.
In the past few years Tom has produced two shorts through the company, 1 in 5 and 72 Virgins, he also teamed with directing duo Joel Kohn and Ben Esler, for their short film Cheeses of Nazareth and more recently the kids TV Pilot Gravediggers.
Tom Davies is an independent filmmaker with a degree in Creative Arts from the University of Melbourne. He founded Savvy Cinema back in 2004, as a means to produce his short film as well as to provide an avenue to put his skills to use producing corporate videos. In addition to the corporate work Tom has directed and produced three shorts, the most recent of which screened at the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
In September 2007 he moved to Los Angeles to study abroad at the University of California, Irvine. While overseas he interned at Mandate Pictures in Beverley Hills, the production company behind such films as Juno and Stranger than Fiction. He was also selected to participate in a student program at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, organised by The American Pavilion.
Prior to that, he acted in the role of Associate Producer for the kids TV pilot Gravediggers and was also responsible for their behind the scenes webseries, available at www.gravediggersthemovie.com.
In late 2008 Tom returned to Melbourne and in 2009, he will be undertaking an Honours year, part time, at the University of Melbourne.
